away with dresses, here comes rompers!

i hardly ever wear dresses anymore - and the only ones i wear are those that feel "convenient" - my polo dresses from Ralph Lauren. and even then, it's the navy one that's the most popular (so i won't have to wear nude underneath) and next comes white (when I can be bothered to wear nude underneath).

it seems that my huge romper craze is what made the dresses in my wardrobe unpopular :X that craze so big now that the only things i ever lookout for currently, are.. rompers.

and that's not all - i've gone into lookin' at rompers that are one-off pieces designed and made by "blooming" designers. blooming = they have their own label, but they don't stock their designs in singapore (it isn't a need but is a definite plus!), they do one-off stuff, and needless to say, they are blooming because they have a fan base (regulars with fast fingers who come back for more). this means that it can be difficult getting the piece that one wants if one is too slow to click. haha.

anyway, having gone into this self-designed and self-made thing by selected designers whose pieces i have taken a fancy to, it seems the damage it does to my pocket gets more and more.. serious. well, i guess that unless i learn to sew my own stuff, one off stuff (even if its just made of plain ol' cotton) that's not mass-manufactured in bulk will definitely cost a hefty lot more.

well, i'll put up pictures of those rompers by the talented designers i've found on the world wide web. once i get them, and once i wear 'em that is.

rompers are <3.

Harsh, Dark Plaid.
Why do I look so oddly stuck up in these pics -_-

Both of these just arrived. and surprisingly the lilac one looks better. :X

i thought i couldn't do sweet. LOL.

well, i suppose i'd keep these for a while. when i get sick of wearing 'em out i could always use 'em as pajamas ;)

Bershka Bershka!

I like the way Bershka sounds. Somehow it reminds me of how some pretty models Serene and I met yearssss ago pronnounced "Russia". :X So sexy.

Well anyway, Mel and I came across a pair of SPLENDID Bershka heels when we were shopping at ION Orchard. I didn't get it then and when I sought a second opinion from Ailay on another day, the heels in my size were gone. Thankfully, the staff had taken down my details and made an order for them for me - with no promises that it would definitely be available.

So I flew off to Manila with doodoo and those heels in my mind. While i shopped around, the sight of any other pair of footwear reminded me of those gorgeous red heels from Bershka and not a single pair could beat it. Why? because wearing those insanely high heels at their height of approximately 12cm made me feel happy - and everything else that caught my eye and fit me well did not.

It's funny how it took me days to realise how much I wanted those heels.

Well, one of the staff from Bershka called me up last evening :) to inform me of the arrival of the heels and to check if I was still interested in them. OF COURSE I WAS! I fought my urge to go down to get it yesterday (cos I felt so sick and yet excited at the same time) and I went down and got them today instead :D

So here they are.. My very first pair of Red heels (and shoes - yes, before these, I did not own a single red coloured pair in my collection of 40 over pairs of footwear).

These heels scream SPLENDOUR.

These pointy toed heels from Bershka have a pixie boot detail (as what i like to call it) - the foldable extensions at the sides and back.

The Pointy Toe cut is something i thought i'd never be able to carry off well enough, but perhaps this was an exception, and LOOK at that flattering v-cut - something I couldn't find in other non-suede-like red heels.

Towering Heels

Also, I measured them when I got home, and these suede-like heels are approximately 12cm high. O_O! In addition, the base of these shoes show a peacock design and that's where I looked to find out that they were made in Spain. Anyway, the white patch you see on the box is termed as an "anti-mold patch". The first alternative to silica gel that i've ever seen in Singapore.

PS: Domo's paddy hand is in the background of one of the peektures. This is the kaypo domo who doesn't wanna miss out on my phototaking session! :X In another photo you'll see a fraction of his large rectangular mouth, but I shall not let him find out that a little bit of that huge mouth was all that I caught :X

i could do all the shopping in the world and that'd be fab, but nothing beats being by his side.

i am now in manila with my beloved doodoo, and charlotte, who decided two days before my takeoff to gatecrash the trip. i remember being so shocked that i could only laugh in response.

aniwae.. one of the amusing things i saw today - a woman showing off her toothbrushing skills in a public toilet. :X apparently nobody else seemed surprised, and char says that perhaps she likes her teeth to be clean all the time :X ah well. speaking of toilets, here's one that cost 10 pesos (approx 3.2 cents) to get into:

very black. with the exception of the sinks, hand towel dispenser and the sanitary supplies machine. all 3 of us - char, doo and i, liked the design ;) we did come across another that looked very pretty though - which was in a chinese restaurant. that one had sinks that resembled ancient chinese wash basins with gorgeous painting on it. the cam wasn't with me then, or i would definitely have taken a picture of those sinks that made me feel like an empress who had fancy wash basins brought to her.

there's also a couple of things that we've had to do - to remember to lock the doors of the taxi always (no going on buses or trains cos those are very dangerous), to ensure that the cab drivers switch ON the meter and go by it... and of course, to hold onto our bags with all the alertness one could have.

all this has to be done as people walk on the roads, in between the cars and lanes to sell stuff, and to beg for cash. as we waited for a cab yesterday, a skinny girl who was prob just a teenager was holding an infant and begging for $. however, no matter what, we couldn't take our wallets out..

also, we went to the casino at hyatt hotel yesterday for a look see thing. doo's friends brought their "girlfriends" who won $ for them. wish i could've done the same, but aniwae we didn't gamble. eventually i got so moody cos of my inferiority complex and some other issues that i ended up having an attitude and looked like an antisocial as i sat with charlotte. well, at least the zi char dinner was fabulous and reasonably cheap at approx $13/person for peking duck, sweet and sour pork, fried rice, fried tofu, duck wrapped in cabbage, steamed dumplings and super soft boneless chicken.

"how dare u take a pic of me in my hungry state?" heheh.
it seems doodoo was in a picture taking mood.
and he caught fungry charlotte in the background too.

gamely posing for a pic of himself!

the place - Golden Bay Seafood

we sat in the middle, so this pic actually shows just half of the restaurant

loads of peeps even at 10+pm!

the girls and doo's friends/colleagues went to get their nails done too, and doo has always wanted to try out a manicure.. so there he is.. getting his already pretty nails prettified.

not sleeping, but looking!!

smiling because... i wanted to take a smiley pic.
poor doo has eyebags because we've been getting just 5 hours of sleep per night.

and both his friends (in white shirts) ... who have been at this manicure thing for a year already.. *gasp*

food wise, there's jollibee here which tastes absolutely fantastic. i am in love with their BBQ chicken and rice :X so u can imagine how much i wish i could eat it everyday heehee. i've eaten it twice already :X hopefully i'll get to have more of it over the next few days before i fly back to sg on thurs. hmm, and one thing we've noticed is that veggies are scarce in manila. :X i'm happie abt that cos then i won't have greens to eat but that isn't v good for doo's health. unfortunately most of his colleagues smoke, so i can't imagine the amount of second hand smoke he inhales everyday.

we had krispy kreme donuts as well ;)
from left to right, top to bottom: peanut butter, hersheys cookies and creme, snickers and oreo, chocolate, powdered strawberry, cinnamon with apple filling, new york cheesecake, some chocolate brownie stuff and some other flavour i don't remember. lol.

with apple juice :D

and this is what our room looks like. its BIG, with a king sized bed?!?!?!?!

i don't remember why we flipped up those parts of the sheets lol but aniwae, the bed's the width of 3 pillows!! O_O!!!

the dresser.. we messed up the room very quickly with all our stuff

and beside the dresser was a space to put our luggage (i don't know what that type of furniture is called), plus - the other part of the room held the wardrobe and toilet plus a space for our footwear haha. that space looks small but it actually could probably fit our bed in. also, the lighting in the room was a mix of flourescent white lights and orange ones, which was different from the full orange-lighting room that we had before this one.

about the air conditioner, it looks so old skool, but it actually works really well - being v cold and all. i've read tons of reviews of various hotels in manila, and in the pictures that are included with the written reviews, i've noticed that it is common for the air conditioners to be of this old skool kind which i thought was non-existent by now. o.o i was proved wrong :X

i also did some delightful shopping on friday and saturday with char. got a couple of rompers and a pair of high waist jeans heheh :) char got nothing but rompers - she's caught on to my romper craze!! and while i was shopping at one of the stores, i fell in love with one of the songs that was playing in there. by FM Static, it is Tonight.

I don't think i've ever posted up lyrics on my blog, but this song caught my attention for some reason, and i've been listening to it for hours haha. The lyrics of a portion of the song:

I remember the days we spent together were not enough
And it used to feel like dreamin'
except we always woke up
Never thought not having you were would hurt so much

Tonight I've fallen and I can't get up
I need your loving hands to come pick me up
And every night I miss you
I can just look up and know the stars are holding you tonight.

well, good night for tonight.

A craze is but a phase.

Had a chat with my bro yesterday, where I found myself trying hard to explain why exactly I shop.

Well, I guess i ended up with a myriad of reasons that bored him.

In general, I like to think of indulgence in life as an "I only have one life, so I should live it the best that I can" kinda thing. I've once been told by someone, that when she was younger, there were tons of dresses that she loved and most of which were dresses that could fit her. However, she couldn't afford them, so she couldn't have them. Now that she's older and fatter, she can afford them but she can no longer fit into them. While I would try my best to live life so that I can enjoy what I want to enjoy while I can do so, that isn't exactly the reason why I like to shop and purchase the same dress in multiple colours.

I couldn't find a way to explain it to my brother nor to myself - that perhaps I shop because I simply enjoy collecting things. A collection of party dresses, rompers, bangles, bird-themed accessories.. who cares if i own the same thing in different colours? What's most important to me is that they are pretty.. and over time, and almost unconsciously, they've become a part of this clothing collection that I absolutely adore. Is wanting to collect clothes the reason why I shop and purchase stuff that I never ever wear?

It also doesn't help that I think I've been through various phases. The preppy phase came first I guess - where scarf and other one-of-a-kind belts that I own adorned my 3/4 length jeans, which were worn along with a favourite baby peach baby tank top (I could never ever find another top in the same shade but it's one that Ailay and I would probably always remember) and white tee shirts - ooh i love them so, but out of 10 tees I own, there's only about 2 that fit perfectly well and out of those 2 only 1 is white -.-). Then there's the pleated and ruffley abercrombie and hollister mini skirts, with grosgrain ribbon sashes and rhinestone pins, or large buttons on a woolen skirt. Preppy Preppy.. OH! and then there were denim overalls.

Not long after, somewhere along the way I probably started wearing dresses. Maybe not STARTED, because I used to wear them a lot when i was a kid. But they made a comeback only in my late teens, so that is a milestone right? haha. Anyway, as I went into dresses, crazes evolving around various themes came and the renmants of those are perhaps stuck into some bits of my dressing today. As such, themes such as vintage are no longer a stranger.. but as for others, such as the formal office look, I'm afraid they've been neglected. For those, it was more of a touch and go thing - high waist skirts, with suspenders, that do not necessarily bring on that totally formal I'm-a-high-flying-career-woman look. I guess, dressing up to me was all about Play. I'm not an office girl, nor do I see myself as one, so playful experimentation with the look was as far as I was willing to go. There was also a craze about dresses and bags with bows.. but this sentence practically sums up what a craze about bows is all about - dresses and bags with bows. :X OH. and accessories too (plastic jappy rings with large bows on 'em - brought those in for myself from taiwan and now the entire world is selling them. boo.)

I've been talkin' so much about clothes that talk about accessories has almost slipped my mind. Hmm.. where should I start? How about my unexplainable connection with rose earrings? I love those in plastic, felt, etc. (but no softies!), even though I hardly ever wear earrings (they get in the way when I'm trying to talk on the phone). Today, I'm still in love with those rose earrings of mine that sit in my pink box of accessories, and I'm glad I bought them in red, white, hot pink, black, and.. if there's anymore I can't remember what colours they are.

My pink box of accessories (lid not pictured). It is pretty deep as there's an additional compartment below the one you see, but its completely filled with necklaces etc. I've had to find a separate box to keep my bracelets ever since then. Loads of the accessories in it are hiding as they were not arranged to be showcased, but instead, this picture was taken to show to Ailay the compartmentalised tray that was given with this box.

At some point in time I was into strawberries and cherries as well (as accessories, and not so much on clothing), and now, I've gone into desserts and pastries with whipped cream, etc. Well anyway, I'm guessing that around the time of strawberries and cherries I started becoming open to the colour of Gold. :X That initial openness has transformed into a liking, and most obviously, a LOVE for it. I love gold so much now that with this absolutely strong preference for it, I am finding it extremely difficult to accept silver :X woops!

A love for Gold and Sweet Treats.

Hmm.. if i were to go on and on in this post, I probably would never end. There's the craze about volkswagen beetle car bags (in metallic red, red, white, silver, gold, metallic orange, yellow, black - and i still don't have mint green and shimmery-pearl pink!), and another craze on Japanese bra sets that started after I purchased my first leopard print bra with pink lace and trim which cost a BOMB! (before that was the time of sports bras and plain basic cups with halter straps?!?!?!) and another one of Maxi Dresses (before Singaporeans started wearing them as often as the angmohs in Boston did) and yet another craze about Juicy Couture.. OH this seriously just goes on! :X:X

What I do stop at though, is the emokid look. I'm afraid i'm still sitting on the fence on that one. Half of me wants to step forward, but the other half feels that the look in my mind is associated too strongly with the emokid. An emokid is a act-punk, black eyeliner-spammed teen whose look I don't buy as one that is genuine. It just looks like they're trying to come out as bold and "cool" in jet black and different from everyone else, but that's what makes them all the same. In my opinion, this is reflected by the balmain studded sandals that they wear, which replaced the gladiator look.. and the heavily fringed and studded tunics and bags that everyone everywhere is sporting now. OH and latex leggings.. etc. etc.!. It's Either that I just can't stop the association of those stuff with emokids, or i'm getting plain old. Is it just me or am i really straying off into the "safe zone"? Having said that, safe is a word that is just so utterly subjective.

So, dress to please oneself - clothes are like second skin. Well of course, unless dressing for the sake of others can make you feel truly comfortable and happy - which I doubt, since you wouldn't then be in your own skin.

While 90% of these crazes have ceased to exist, or that they may have faded into some unknown parts of my room, some of 'em have moved into some part of my brain that decides what I fancy or don't fancy in clothes. This just proves to me that a craze is obviously but a phase.. but without them, what would I be? Would I be stuck in preppy clothes that I used to wear 5 years ago? Not that it's a bad thing since Ailay seems to remember that part of me for all the right reasons LOL and I still love white tees. but being stuck possibly means that some part of my brain is not growing in openness of trying out new things and when a craze comes along (this does not refer to a craze for trends because trends aren't always right for everyone), i get hyped up and happy and i am filled with excitement and glee and it makes me have a sense of anticipation for all the newnewnew stuff im going to try on and basically, it's a part of what makes me feel more alive. SHOPPING for new stuff that suit me and that I don't already have just gives me that feeling and I don't know why.

So as I'm STILL learning to accept purple, it seems I have found the first item in my entire life that is fully dressed up in lace - a purplish-blue corset dress from TOPSHOP. It is a miracle that I actually have taken a liking to this lacey, purpley, fishscaley, padless yet boned frock. Many thanks to Ailay who sponsored part of the cost as a birthday present :D

Now that I've had pads sewn in, I should have a boost! heehee.

Oh. and padded dresses are love. Once you discover them, they'll never be termed as a craze, nor would they turn into a phase - they're just a convenience in your wardrobe that you'd find yourself always wanting to have for life.

there's more than meets the eye

i was digging into my wardrobe a couple of mornings ago when i found some pieces of clothing that i don't even remember i have.. and obviously those price tags were still on! that's in addition to many other pieces of clothing that i remember i have that still have their price tags on too.

im having this huge headache now cos i have these $40 dresses to clear. zzz. i suppose i might be going for a flea with ailay and jiahui some time in the near or not so near future and putting some of these perfectly brand new clothes up at haji lane at the same time.

anyway, my fav looks for Spring Summer '10!

from chanel

and stella mccartney

white's always been one of my most fav colours.. (i especially love white tees actually) and for some reason i think white gives a clean, breezy look, or even crisp depending on the fabric heheh.

and while brown has always been left out of my wardrobe, making its appearance only on bags, i don't deny that it looks good on the smart tailored shorts (with the perfect matching belt) and heck-carish long blouse above. having a love for rompers, i just couldn't leave that baggy white one out. it's something i would wear - because it goes with the kind of thing i like to do - slack, and it looks so simply fuss-free.

as for chanel, i love the white "shirt", red shoes, and gorgeous corsaged bag. to me, its screaming bold and loud in a somewhat discreet way because the white seems to tone down the red and yet those petalled stuff on it makes it different from a regular white shirt that therefore sends a message to my brain - "buy me". the bag too. the corsages lend detail to an otherwise plain bag - which is what made me take a second look its otherwise plainness and decide that the two go well together.

well, unfortunately, as with the words of Edna Woolman Chase, "Fashion can be bought, style one must posess", even if style exists, fashion can and must be bought and so WHERE IS THE MONEY?

madness is an understatement

as i was lookin' through my wardrobe this morning and digging through the drawers and all that i have.. i realised that i have clothes that i didn't even remember purchasing until i saw 'em. needless to say, they still had their tags on 'em because i haven't even worn 'em, and so do tons of other pieces of clothing that i remember purchasing.

what a horror, because i have already accumulated at least 60 pieces of clothing that i haven't worn and do not want, and i haven't got any idea on how to get rid of these stuff at the price i paid for 'em.

here's just some of 'em, from MDS. dresses and a romper.

i've had a couple of options to sell 'em off. either get them off at dirt cheap prices at flea markets and lose 80% of what i paid for 'em, or put them in a retail store and get back 60% of what i paid.

well. i'll just have to see how it goes.

am too irritated now to continue blogging now. tried changing the skin but i keep getting an error message. will talk again another day.
